Cancer one of major causes of death in Russia

The Russian Federal Statistics Service named three major causes of men’s high mortality in Russia. They include heart attacks and strokes, accidents and cancer. In 2017, some 42,000 able-bodied men died of cancer.

Most Russian men, according to the statistics service, die of heart attacks and strokes (102,000 men aged 16 to 59 in 2017).  The second most common cause is accidents, particularly, car accidents, but also murders and carelessness, which caused 87,000 deaths in 2017. Cancer took lives of 42,000 men thus being the third most common cause. Other mortality causes include intestinal system disorders (26,000 men per year) and viral diseases (20,000 men die of complications). A total of 317,000 able-bodied men died in Russia in 2017, according to Pravda.ru.

Interestingly, the Healthcare Ministry provided different statistics. The main cause of men’s death in Russia according to the ministry is alcoholism that kills 70% of Russian men.
