Clothing prices will rise in Russia next year

Next year, Russians will have to pay significantly more to buy electronics, household appliances, clothes and shoes, head of the business committee of Delovaya Rossiya public organization Alexei Fyodorov said.

Household appliances will rise 13%, and electronics, 9%. Footwear and apparel prices will not rise so much; however, even a 2–5% hike can hit consumers.

The spike is not expected until 2021 and will be associated with the policy of 100% recycling of consumer goods and packaging. That accounts for 5% to 35% of all products on the market, Izvestia writes.

Delovaya Rossiya experts believe that the new system will significantly affect the prices of most consumer goods. Retailers have supported the new legislation, but said the transition to a new recycling system should be smooth – otherwise, the initiative will lead to significant costs for companies as they will need to open additional warehouses to store the packaging collected by retailers.
