Defense Ministry approves helicopter of the future

The Defense Ministry has approved the design of an innovative Russian helicopter presented by Russian Helicopters, RIA Novosti reports.

Earlier, Russian Helicopters CEO Andrey Boginsky announced that the prototype is being developed based on Mil Mi-24 (Hind), a Soviet attack helicopter designed by the Mil Design Bureau. The flying laboratory developing the military machine first took off in the early 2017 reaching the speed of 400 km/h.

“The model was presented to the Defense Ministry and successfully defended. Eventually, Mil’s monoaxial design was selected. At the moment, the plan is to build a machine that can develop a speed of up to 400 km/h,” a source commented to the agency.

As Invest Foresight reported earlier, images of another avanced aircraft leaked online. The prototype is similar to Kamov helicopters (Black Shark and Alligator). Their distinctive feature is airplane-type wings. The new helicopter is supposed to reach 700 km/h, which is almost twice as high as the speed of a regular helicopter and close to the speed of passenger airliners.
