Diamond producer reports 32% sales drop

Russia’s ALROSA, a global leader in diamond production, reports its 2019 second quarter diamond production of 9.7 mio carats (24% growth quarter on quarter or 14% year on year) and sales of 8.3 mio carats (22% drop) worth $0.8 bln.

According to the corporate website, average diamond grade seasonally decreased by 25%. Inventories as at June 2019 went up 12% q-o-q, average realized prices for gem-quality diamonds rose by 5%, yet diamond sales in value terms decreased by 19% to $796 mio (down 25% y‑o-y) over the second quarter or by 32% y-o-y over the six month of 2019.
