Domestic tourism may become unaffordable for some Russians

Prices on Russian resorts may go up 30%, according to Alexander Kurnosov, Vice President of the Association of Russian Travel Companies.

The travel industry is expected to fully recover by 2022. Many companies lost 100% of their returns during the pandemic. The Federal Agency for Tourism reported that tourist companies have lost RUR 1.5 trln ($21.8 bln). Around 7 mio people involved in the industry may lose their jobs.

Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin announced that the country is preparing for the holiday season. Some spa resorts have already opened. Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Chernyshenko added that people can start travelling inside the country on July 1.

The Association noted that while foreign travel is still restricted, prices on domestic resorts will go up. Vice President of the Association Alexander Kurnosov believes that the inbound tourism market in Russia will lose out completely this season, Izvestia reports. For example, Chinese tourists are not expected to return to Russia until the next year.
