The Pension Fund of Russia has seen a growing number of “pension recalculation” requests.
It appears that mala fide law firms talk pensioners into hiring them for legal assistance to achieve an upward recalculation.
The actual increase in their retirement benefits does not exceed RUR 50 ($0.73) per month, on average, while these pseudo-lawyers charge their clients from RUR 20K to RUR 900K ($300-$13,000) for these services. This is how much they actually make their victim pay for drawing up a statement, the Main Directorate of Regional Security of the Moscow Region warns on its website.
Some fraudsters tell their targets they are Pension Fund workers who call to inform them about the next payment; they ask for details of their accounts and later withdraw the money.
The Pension Fund reaffirms that they have all the necessary data for calculating pensions and other benefits; anyone who calls to request such information is a scammer.
