Driverless KAMAZ trucks to be used in the Arctic

Self-driving vehicles are now used on Arctic roads in the Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Area.

Successful tests of driverless trucks have taken place in the region, at the Vostochno-Messoyakhskoye oil field, Russia’s northernmost onshore field.

The technology is based on KAMAZ trucks; the project is being implemented under the patronage of the government of the autonomous area and the Gazprom Neft company.

The main task of the trials was to confirm that the use of driverless vehicles can improve the security of cargo transportation, streamline cargo shipments to the regions of the Far North and make them fail safe.
