Electric car sales boom expected in Russia

Experts predict a multi-fold increase in the number of electric cars in the country.

PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) experts believe that the number of electric cars in Russia will be growing by 30% every year and even faster in Moscow (by 60%). However, even despite the substantial growth in sales, the actual number of the rechargeable vehicles will still be insignificantly small.

PwC report released by RBC states that in 2018 Russians bought 2.4K electric cars and their number will increase to 15K within seven years, if current forecasts prove correct. Nissan and Tesla are the most popular car manufacturers right now, accounting for just over 50% and 40%, respectively. Jaguar and Renault share the remaining percentage of the sales.

It was also reported that Russians prefer to buy used cars. The regions with the largest number of used electric cars include Primorye Territory, Khabarovsk Territory, Irkutsk and Krasnodar.
