Experts name best Russian cities for living

The Financial University under the Government of the Russian Federation has compiled a ranking of the Russian cities with the best quality of life. The research was published on the university website.

Experts assessed various factors, including city authorities, the quality of healthcare and even local residents’ self-evaluation of their income level. The ranking also considered culture and education development, condition of roads, housing and utilities, and residents’ inclination to migrate.

The list includes 78 cities with a population of over 250,000 people. Tyumen took the first place. The Siberian city with over 700,000 residents is one of the country’s oil capitals. Interestingly, Grozny took the second place while Moscow was only ranked third.

“There are certain problems with healthcare, education and culture, as well as a rather average income. Grozny is ahead of Moscow for the said indicators thus making the second place for the quality of life,” Deputy President of the Financial University Alexei Zubets commented.

The top 5 also includes Sochi and Kazan. St. Petersburg was ranked seventh. Another commodity capital, Surgut, rounds up the top ten. Sterlitamak (Bashkortostan’s second largest city) took the last winning place and was ranked 30th.
