Face ID introduced at Sberbank school

VisionLabs company, a resident of Skolkovo Innovations Center, has launched a facial recognition system at School 21 that provides free fundamental education in programming, Skolkovo website reports.

The school does not have a magnetic card access control system, so all students and staff use the Face ID system. It takes just a few moments to look into the camera and the doors will open. The algorithm determines whether this is a real person and it is impossible to trick the system with a photograph.

School 21 is Sberbank’s project, offering students aged 18-30 a fundamental education in programming. The school operates 24/7, without a schedule and assigned teachers: students determine the intensity and time of classes themselves. The school employs a peer-to-peer principle.

“Facial recognition at school might significantly improve the safety of the students, and also make the access quicker and simpler, for the students do not need ID or magnetic cards which they can lose,” VisionLabs founder and general director Alexander Khanin told Sk.ru.

In all, there are 12 facial recognition cameras at the school. The average daily traffic is about 250 people.

VisionLabs is one of the global leaders in computer vision technology and machine learning. The company’s flagship product is the LUNA facial recognition system used by over 40 banks and national credit agencies in Russia and the CIS. The company is currently creating a biometric platform for Sberbank, which owns 25.07% shares in VisionLabs.
