Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov spoke to Foreign Policy and Diplomacy of Turkmenistan magazine, Foreign Ministry’s website reported.
Lavrov specifically noted that, “The signing in August 2018 of the Convention on the Legal Status of the Caspian Sea has brought to the forefront the task of promoting sustainable and mutually beneficial economic development in the Caspian Sea region. What makes this international treaty important is the fact that it creates a legal framework for stepping up cooperation in the field of trade, investment and transport.”
As the Minister pointed out, “It is highly satisfying that the forum’s agenda covers a broad range of questions related to strengthening trade and economic ties, improving the investment climate, and promoting hands-on industrial, transport, innovative and research cooperation. I strongly believe that the First Caspian Economic Forum will provide a new impetus to cooperation in trade, investment and tourism, which would help, among other things, turn the Caspian Sea region into one of the world’s biggest transport and transit hubs.”
