Millions of Russians will lose their jobs

Fifteen million Russians may lose their jobs because of a lack of demand, according to Oleg Shein, member of the State Duma Committee on Labor, Social Policy and Veteran Issues, quoted by URA.RU.

The parliament member said that the jobs that will not survive are the jobs that do not require qualification such as salespeople, security guards and drivers. Salespeople can be replaced by machines that have already been installed by some major retailers, and Sberbank employees will be replaced by robots. All over the world customer service staff is becoming less and less in demand, the expert noted.

The world is now going through the fourth industrial revolution and as a result, work is transforming from a necessity into creativity, Oleg Shein believes. Jobs that require compassion, empathy or flexibility in applying knowledge (for example, in education and healthcare) will remain highly sought-after, said the MP who has an education degree himself and worked as a history teacher in the 1990s.

Earlier, Skolkovo Foundation experts reported that 57 jobs will become obsolete in the next decade. However, they will be replaced by 186 new jobs.
