Impact of the digital economy on markets discussed in Moscow

Moscow hosted the 5th International Research and Practical Conference by the Financial University under the Government of the Russian Federation, The Transformation of Financial Markets and Systems in the Digital Economy.

Over the years, the conference has become a sought-after discussion platform for the academic community, financial sector companies and regulators with respect to the digital transformation of financial markets.

Among the speakers were representatives of the Russian State Duma, Bank of Russia, the Federal Service for Financial Monitoring, the Moscow Exchange, the Russian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, financial companies, as well as Invest Foresight founder Artem Genkin.

The conference opened with a plenary session devoted to the contemporary financial systems and digital leadership. Rector of the Financial University Stanislav Prokofyev greeted the participants.

“The conference’s objective is to concentrate academic thought on the most important and relevant goals of digitalization, as well as support and develop communication with experts – representatives of the legislative authority and financial sector companies, and offer new opportunities to young people,” the rector said.

The conference participants discussed proposals aimed at increasing competitiveness of the Russian financial sector amid the growing influence of digital technology. In particular, they talked about the economic and legal aspects of the discussion on digital currencies, the use of Big Data in finance, as well as the role digital technologies play in the development of the equity and derivatives markets, and other relevant issues.
