Persimmon worth $150 mio

Persimmon, mainly grown in subtropical climates, is an export good for Azerbaijan. Its exports reached $150 mio between September 2018 and March 2019, Azernews portal reported. Some 200K tons of persimmons were produced in Azerbaijan in 2018, of which 150K tons were exported, with further 50K tons exported in 2019.

The sales markets for Azerbaijani persimmon are primarily Russia, Ukraine, Moldova, Kazakhstan and the United Arab Emirates. Azerbaijan also exports dried persimmons to the Netherlands, Germany, Russia, and Ukraine.

About 70% of the world’s 4 mio tons of persimmon production originate from China. Sizeable volumes are also produced in Korea, Japan, Brazil, Azerbaijan, Italy, Israel, Uzbekistan and Turkey.
