Robots will not take away jobs – expert

Artificial intelligence may be stealing work but it will not take away jobs, said IBM Business Development Director Oleg Byakhov who spoke at the Startup Village conference in Skolkovo on May 30.

“Artificial intelligence can perform monotonous tasks but it can’t cut down jobs. Technology development is bringing more opportunities for people to engage in more complicated and creative tasks. It is also freeing up the time for conceptualizing and finding out-of-the-box solutions,” the expert noted.

He added that AI complements human brain.

“In the future people will delegate the work they don’t want to do to AI. It is already happening now,” Oleg Byakhov stressed.

He added that cloud-based AI has really great prospects. IBM is currently working on related solutions. The company’s AI, Watson, has learned the fundamentals of psychoanalysis. It can analyze a text uploaded by a human on a cloud server and draw conclusions about the user’s consumer preferences as well as about the emotional component, or the tone, of the text.

Oleg Byakhov concluded that AI will eventually become so common that customers will be paying money to communicate with humans rather than robots.
