Russia may implement sick pay reform

Next year, Russia may carry out a reform of sick and maternity leave policy, with payments to be made by Russia’s Social Insurance Fund rather than by employers.

The Government is currently developing the corresponding draft law. The United Russia ruling party has announced it will support the bill, which is expected to be introduced to the State Duma at the end of this year.

The draft law will provide insurance payment guarantees for Russian citizens and allow for accurate calculations, developers say. According to initiators, the move will also make for increasing the quality of services in this area, the Izvestiya newspaper reported.

The deputies noted that the initiative is relevant – yet efforts should be taken to make payments without delays. In case companies lack necessary finances, payments will be made from the fund’s resources to make employees feel secure, parliamentarians emphasized.
