The Russian Accounts Chamber has launched several pilot artificial intelligence projects. The news was announced by Mikhail Petrov, Director of the Accounts Chamber’s Digital Transformation Department, who spoke at Forum Digital AI.
Mikhail Petrov explained that one of the pilot AI projects is intended to take some workload off inspectors. The chamber completed testing a system for automatic classification of violations detected by inspectors. Another pilot project involves a system that can look for and identify suspicious transactions in an array of collected data.
The digital transformation director noted that, however, artificial intelligence is not always helpful because many tasks can still be solved using simple analytical tools. Moreover, according to Accounts Chamber representatives, the quantity and quality of the data in the public administration system are not up to the level that would allow making any decisions based on their analysis without human participation.
“Our experience with modern algorithms shows that it is not possible to completely exclude human involvement from this work. A computer still needs a competent professional watching over it and making final decisions,” Mikhail Petrov added.
