Russian fast food chain to sell plant-based meat

Russian fast food chain Teremok is going to expand its menu with meals containing meat made of vegetable protein. The news was announced on Facebook by Teremok CEO Mikhail Goncharov.

The restaurant owner is partnering with Beyond Meat, a US company and one of the world’s first producers of vegan proteins. As soon as this October, innovative meals will become available at several Teremok restaurants in Moscow. The company plans to use plant-based meat in a total of ten Moscow outlets. It should be noted that a meal with Beyond Meat cutlets will cost significantly higher than average, or presumably RUR 449 ($7).

Beyond Meat, a company producing meat alternatives made of yellow pea protein, was founded ten years ago in 2009. Last May it reached IPO. According to Alexander Alekseyevsky, junior analyst at the QB investment company, IPO of the plant-based meat company paid its investors the largest yield (the company’s shares are now listed at 676.8% above the placing price).

CB Insights analysts report that vegetable protein is becoming increasingly popular among consumers around the world. The vegetable protein market is estimated at $11 bln.
