The revenue of Russian IT companies in the first half of 2026 amounted to 5.9 trillion rubles. The industry has been growing by roughly 15–20% annually in recent years, Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Grigorenko said.
In 2024, the sector’s revenue increased by 27%, to 12.2 trillion rubles, and in 2025 by another 14%, to 13.9 trillion. According to the Digital Economy autonomous non-profit organization, the industry currently employs about 1.8 million people, and its share of Russian GDP has nearly doubled over six years.
IT growth noticeably exceeds the current pace of the economy in general, but the revenue figure should not be taken directly as a contribution to GDP – it accounts for the full turnover of companies, experts explain. The tangible consequence of the industry’s rapid expansion is different – it requires ever more specialists and computing infrastructure, so staffing and energy constraints are becoming just as significant as the demand for software.
