Russian mobile services go up in price again

The average price of the cheapest mobile phone plans in Russia increased by 8% in the first six months of this year, according to Content Review analysts.

Mobile communication companies partially lost their profit due to the pandemic and decided to recover it at the expense of mobile phone users. Experts predict that later this year, mobile service rates will increase by another 14%, Kommersant reports. 

The average price of the cheapest mobile plans in Russia increased by 8% in the first six months of 2020, from RUR 270 to RUR 291 ($3.8 to $4.11). Tele2 provider, previously known for its low rates, authorized the highest increase.

Experts note that mobile companies lost RUR 30 bln ($423 mio) because of the pandemic. Now they are trying to recover these losses.
