US authorities froze US assets of Russian oligarch Oleg Deripaska, including his mansion in the Upper East Side of Manhattan, NY, the New York Post reports.
According to the US reporters, that was ‘part of a hard-core battle’ between US authorities and the Russian ‘aluminum billionaire’. Deripaska though is mainly on the defensive trying to meet the strict requirements of the State Department.
According to the New York Post, Oleg Deripaska ‘is on the sanctions list because he is allegedly involved in murder, money-laundering, bribery and racketeering’.
Yet ‘Deripaska has arranged to have the children and ex-wife of his business partner, the oligarch Roman Abramovich, live’ at the arrested property. The outlet states that the US authorities granted permission to Dasha Zhukova to live there.
Deripaska and his Rusal and En+ companies were sanctioned last April. Sanctions were also imposed on another oligarch Victor Vekselberg.
