Russian universities have shown the best result in recent years in the QS World University Rankings 2019. Certain universities even jumped 50 points.

The annual ranking by Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) is compiled by evaluating universities from various countries for 45 different subjects and five broad subject areas. The ranking compilers analyze the knowledge in such subjects as mathematics, biology, social studies, physics, psychology, history, and information technology. This year, some 83,000 teachers and 42,000 employees were involved in compiling the ranking. While evaluating a university, compilers considered its academic prestige and reputation among employers, research article citedness and the Hirsch index.

According to Zoya Zaitseva, Regional Director for Eastern Europe and Central Asia at Quacquarelli Symonds, who presented the ranking at RIA Novosti news agency, over 4,000 experts mentioned at least one Russian university while compiling the rating.

“This year, Russian universities received much attention, with over 149 universities evaluated and 31 of them included in the QS World University Rankings 2019. This is a good indicator; as regards the number of universities that made it to the ranking, we yield only to Great Britain, France and the United States”, Zaitseva noted.

The ranking, she said, represents the best universities in 53 specialist training areas. According to the compilers, Russian universities provide the best education in mathematics, physics, and computer science.
