The proportion of Russian citizens with incomes below the poverty line dropped to a historic low of 7.2% last year, according to Deputy Prime Minister Tatyana Golikova, URA.RU reports.

She noted that the figure dropped below early 2000s levels, reaching the lowest point in Russia’s history.
For reference, the poverty line last year was set at an income of 15,552 rubles per month. According to the Federal Service for State Statistics (Rosstat), 10.5 million citizens earned this amount, which is 1.7 million fewer than in 2023.
Meanwhile, the average monthly nominal wage in Russia at the end of 2024 was nearly six times higher, reaching 87,952 rubles.
