Researchers at the Kabardino-Balkarian Scientific Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences began using a 3D printer to make robot parts. The new technology will accelerate the development of robots and make their production cheaper.

The printer can roll out large body parts, as well as complex elements of the robot mechanisms. According to the research center leadership, this new technology should dramatically cut the time for manufacturing robot parts. 3D printers will also be able to create very complex and unique components, TASS reports.

The printer has a high printing speed, while being capable of producing quite large units, up to 1 m. long, and even made up of several different materials. A laboratory has opened at the scientific center for the development of robots and unmanned vehicles.
