Skoltech develops supercomputer for AI computation

Russian researchers have presented the country’s first specialized one-petaflop supercomputer. The supercomputer ranks sixth in Russia and the CIS in terms of processing speed and is designed for AI computation.

The supercomputer is developed by the Skolkovo Institute of Science and Technology (Skoltech). It will be used in machine learning, data science, mathematical modeling in biomedicine, photo processing and medical research. The processing speed of the new computer will later reach 2-3 petaflops. The machine consists of 26 computer elements with powerful graphic accelerators with tensor cores, TASS news agency reports. The computer is also fitted with fiber optical channels and semiconductor lasers.

The supercomputer uses thousands of processors in order to perform tasks in computational modeling and to process large amounts of data. It can be used in weather forecasting, nuclear test modeling and even make calculations for aircraft manufacturing.
