Masha and the Bear sets new record on YouTube

An episode from the Masha and the Bear Russian animated series has been added the Guinness Book of World Records for the incredible number of views on YouTube.

The video, titled ‘The Recipe for Disaster’ has been viewed over 3.4 bln times, which indicates its popularity throughout the world: it is next to impossible to have such an audience in the Russian-speaking world alone. It is the only animated video that has made it to the five most viewed videos on YouTube. That is, no other cartoon has even come close to the numbers reached by Masha and the Bear. Overall, all the episodes scored over 40 bln views.

Along with ‘The Recipe for Disaster,’ the top five include music videos. Interestingly, only one of them is American. The Spanish-language song Despacito by Puerto Rican singer Luis Fonsi tops the most watched videos list by a long shot with almost 5.9 bln views, followed by American rapper Wiz Khalifa featuring Charlie Puth with a song called See You Again from the Furious 7 film soundtrack. Its result is almost 4 bln. British musician Ed Shiran’s Shape of You ranked third with over 4 bln views. And the fifth, after ‘The Recipe for Disaster,’ is Gangnam Style by South Korean singer PSY, which was once the first video that reached a billion views. By now, it has been viewed 3.2 bln times.

The Masha and the Bear series launched a decade ago and quickly won its audience – primarily children of preschool age and their parents, who sometimes have to watch this content along with them. It has been translated into 36 languages, reaching viewers in over 100 countries.
