Sukhoi Su-57 will be stationed in southern Russia

Five-generation destroyers, Sukhoi Su-57, will be supplied to one of the aviation regiments in the Southern Military District of Russia, either in Krymsk (Krasnodar Territory) or at the Belbek airfield in Sevastopol, Crimea.

It is a common practice in Russia to assign new aircraft to the military units that are located relatively close to the manufacturer, for better control.

However, in the case of Su-57 the decision was made to send the aircraft to the Southern Military District as its area of responsibility is subject to some tensions. This strategically important region is currently protected by outdated modifications of Sukhoi Su-27. When new aircraft arrive, the Su-27 jets will be either upgraded or decommissioned. There is no firm decision yet.
