The researchers analyzed the fiscal performance across Russian regions between 2015 and 2017. They looked at the three major taxes, property tax, land tax and transport tax. Results were surprising as the experts found that the taxes are growing in Russia too fast, or by 84% faster than wages.

Chechnya showed the biggest difference between wages and taxes. Local wages grew only by 4% while taxes grew by 389%. Therefore, the taxes collected are 92 times higher than the wage increase.

The situation in the Nenets Autonomous Area and Tyva is only slightly better. In the Nenets Autonomous Area, wages grow at 4% per three years while taxes on individuals grew by 42%. This means that the fiscal performance in the region is growing ten times faster than wages. Tyva is experiencing the same circumstances. Wages only grew by 10% while taxes grew by 77% thus making the tax increase rate 645% faster than the wage increase rate.

Moscow was ranked 19th with a 231% tax increase as local wages also grow slowly.

The Yaroslavl and Vologda regions are the most comfortable for living. As local wages grew by 15%, taxes increased only by 8% and 6%, respectively.
