Dmitry Medvedev to create unemployment registry

Deputy Head of the Security Council and Chairman of the United Russia party Dmitry Medvedev proposed creating a job registry for the Russians who lost their jobs, according to his Vkontakte page.

The former prime minister believes the registry will help citizens to receive latest information about employment opportunities, including jobs in other regions. The Work in Russia portal may serve as the basis for this registry.

“The job opening registry for unemployed Russians will help them to receive latest information about available jobs not only in their region but all over the country,” commented Pavel Sigal, First Vice President of the Opora Russia public organization. “This initiative is particularly relevant because the COVID-19 epidemic and the recession are expected to result in the number of job openings decreasing by 25% to 30%. This is due to certain industries shrinking (travel, hospitality, consulting, customer service, fitness, catering, etc.). At the same time, the unemployment rate is expected between 8 and 15 mio until the end of the year. Currently, 3.5 mio people in Russia do not have a job while 1.4 mio are officially registered as unemployed. The number of officially unemployed people in the country doubled in April.”
