Drone training courses to appear in Russia

The government of the Republic of Tatarstan is launching a training program for drone operator instructors, TASS news agency reports.

The new course, ‘Operating unmanned aerial vehicles (drones)’ will be taught at the Kazan College of Information Technology and Communications.

“It is necessary to train instructors,” the republic’s Minister of Informatization and Communications, Roman Shaikhutdinov, said speaking at the Kazan Expo exhibition complex.

On December 13, the DigitalSkills professional skills competition kicked off at Kazan Expo. According to Shaikhutdinov, the project to train drone operators will receive assistance from the regional Ministry of Education and Science, whose head Rafis Burganov already praised the initiative.

“Rafis Burganov and I both agree that the college is an interregional competence center and a good platform. We need to take advantage of it to train instructors and teach this subject,” Shaikhutdinov added.

Russia is actively developing the manufacturing of drones of various sizes and purposes. Last month, the heavy SKYF drone (also called ‘Russian Hulk’) with a takeoff weight of up to 600 kg was tested near Kazan. According to some reports, the Russian Army has thousands of combat drones operated by experts in dozens of detachments.
