Economic crisis affects 60% of Russians

Most Russians are feeling the economic crisis that has hit the country, according to a survey by the Public Opinion Fund.

62% of respondents believe that Russia is currently in a crisis. It is noteworthy that in the past five years, the public sentiment has improved.  Almost a quarter (24%) of respondents say there is no crisis; 27% said that their incomes were decreasing, while 24% believe that crisis is caused by growing expenses, that is, prices and tariffs.

Over 10% of respondents noted the increased unemployment; 24% are sure that the situation is not going to change anytime soon; 21% are concerned about an even bigger crisis while 6% are just hoping for the best.

Experts believe that there are objective prerequisites for a crisis: first of all, the weakened American and Chinese economies due to their trade war, as well as the loan crisis in Russia, caused by people’s inability to pay off their loans with their shrinking incomes. An increase in global oil prices after Saudi Arabia cut its oil production, as well as the favorable macroeconomic situation in Russia, that is, a huge volume of accumulated reserves, could help minimize the consequences of the crisis.
