Edible spoon invented in Bashkortostan

Vadim Fattakhov, an entrepreneur from Russia’s Bashkortostan Republic, has invented an edible spoon made of flour.

Vadim Fattakhov believes his invention can replace environmentally unfriendly disposable plastic tableware in the market. He expects his eatable spoons will first of all be in demand in catering establishments. They can certainly be bought as souvenirs as well.

The spoons are made of fully natural components such as flour, eggs and milk. Various flavorings can be used as well. Thus, sweet dessert spoons can be made, for example, while experimenting with different types of flour, spices and vegetables will allow producing tomato, or buckwheat, or other spoons.

The technology permits using edible spoons for not only cold dishes (such as icecreams), but even for hot soups too. The first release of the innovative tableware has already taken place. Vadim Fattakhov printed a trial batch of 4,000 spoons. For that, he had raised RUR 136K ($2K) at Boomstarter crowdfunding platform.

We then raised the money we needed. Yet the financial aspect was secondary here. We in fact managed to break even, but we obtained prospect distributors who are willing to distribute out products in their areas. We have also got a few wholesale orders”, Fattakhov explains.

The inventor is now preparing for a mass production of his eatable spoons. The project will be partially supported through crowdfunding (RUR 122K). The entrepreneur has also attracted RUR 1.65 mio of investments and got a RUR 500K grant at a tender arranged by the Federal Agency for Youth.
