In 2022, tourist flow to Armenia from Russia quadrupled

Tourist flow to Armenia from Russia in 2022 quadrupled compared to last year – such data were obtained by the company ZONT Hotel Group based on hotel booking information numbers. In 2022, hotels in Armenia showed the highest figures over the past five years. At the same time, not only the number of guests from Russia increased, but in general, the occupancy on the market increased from 43% to 68.5%.

In 2022, a total of 55,151 people stayed at the Ramada Hotel & Suites by Wyndham Yerevan, operated by Zont Hotel Group. More than one half of the bookings were made by Russians – the number of guests from Russia amounted to 29,096 people. In second place citizens of Armenia follow (4782 people): this figure includes primarily representatives of the Armenian diaspora living around the world and coming to their homeland. Tourists from the USA close the top three – they accounted for 3,771 bookings.

“The Russians have led previously in the incoming tourist flow to Armenia, but this year the proportion has changed”, Nikolai Filatov, managing partner of ZONT Hotel Group, says. – If a year earlier the share of Russian tourists was 32% of the total, then in 2022 it grew to 53%. Shares of other countries in the top three have changed slightly with downward trend: tourists with Armenian passports accounted for 9% against 12% last year, while tourists from the United States accounted for 7% and 9%, respectively.”

In Armenia, not only hotel occupancy has grown. According to STR (Smith Travel Research), sharing aggregated anonymous information on hotel indicators, in 2022 revenue per available room (RevPar) for the Armenian market averaged 27,895 drams and increased by 88.5% compared to last year, overtaking the pre-pandemic 2019 by 25%. The maximum came as of March, when RevPar increased by 265% compared to the same period last year, while it remained above 100% in June inclusive. The next peak came in December, when RevPar increased by 90% compared to December last year.
