Ingushetia unemployment highest in Russia, ranking reveals

According to a Rostrud ranking of the country’s regions with the highest unemployment rates, the Republic of Ingushetia is the territory that has the highest unemployment rate, followed by Chechnya and Dagestan.

Officials from Russia’s Federal Service for Labor and Employment (Rostrud) have compiled a ranking of territories with the greatest number of the unemployed and the smallest number of job vacancies. The Republic of Ingushetia, located in the North Caucasus region, has the highest unemployment rate, with only 206 vacancies for 24,000 unemployed. The territory is followed by the Chechen Republic and the Republic of Dagestan. Then follows North Ossetia, another region located in North Caucasus. The Republic of Tyva in southern Siberia ranks 5th.

According to officials, the lowest unemployment rate is observed in Russia’s Far East. Surprisingly enough, the best situation occurs in such problem regions as the Jewish Autonomous Region and the Amur Region, Russia Today reported. In the Jewish Autonomous Region, a serious crisis is being observed even in the region’s capital, Birobidzhan, with disputes ongoing at a federal level over eliminating the region’s status as Russia’s constituent entity.
