Innovative PD-14 jet engine ready for service

The PD-14 jet engine, developed by specialists in Perm, is ready for market launch. The engine has received the corresponding certificate signed by Head of Russia’s Federal Agency for Air Transport Alexander Neradko.

This hi-tech engine will be installed on advanced short and medium haul MC-21 jet airliners, with a flying range of up to 6,000 km and a capacity of 150-220 passengers.

The parameters of the newly developed engine will reduce the fuel consumption rate by 15% as compared to its equivalents.

The PD-14 is a family of advanced civil turbofan engines with the takeoff thrust of 9-18 tons, developed by United Engine Corporation (part of Rostec State Corporation).

“PD-14 stands for ‘Perm Engine of 2014.’ During a relatively short period, Siberian engineers managed to bring the work on the engine to successful conclusion,” says Viktor Ponomaryov, former engineer at Voronezh Aircraft Plant, PhD in Technical Sciences. “Of course, it would be too soon to call it a technological breakthrough as it has its equivalents worldwide. Yet, this is a major step for aircraft engineering and import substitution.”
