KWS to invest 1.2 bln in Lipetsk

A delegation of Germany’s KWS SAAT SE visited the Lipetsk special economic zone to discuss a plant construction there.

KWS, a world leader in plant breeding, is implementing an investment project to apply the most advanced European technology for producing sugar beet hybrid seeds in the Lipetsk special economic zone. The total investment will amount to RUR 1.2 bln ($19 mio) with production to begin in 2022.

According to Igor Bruyevich, KWS Breeding Station’s CEO, “The company makes substantial investment in R&D and performs extensive breeding to produce hybrids that meet customers’ needs.”

The Lipetsk Region produces one fifth of all Russian sugar (some 900K tons in 2018) while its sugar beet output exceeded 5 mio tons in 2018, to certain degree due to cultivating new high yielding varieties.
