State Duma Chairman: European Parliament ready for dialogue with Russia

Viacheslav Volodin, Chairman of the State Duma (lower house of the Russian parliament) commented on the elections to the European Parliament, website of the house reports.

“Changes in the political setup reflected at the elections were caused by accumulated questions to politicians, unresolved problems of citizens, primarily in the economic sphere and migration policy, as well as growing demand for reinforcement of the role of nation-states in decision making in the European Parliament,” Volodin said. “The Europeans vote primarily for a prosperous and independent Europe, they want the interests of countries to be taken into account at a larger scale, and to preserve the foundations of sovereignty. Russia also wants to see such Europe.”

“Despite our differences, the European Union remains our neighbor and the largest trade and economic partner,” he stressed. “It is important that the parliamentarians elected to the new European Parliament are ready for new approaches and an equitable dialogue with Russia.”
