Large dairy farm to be built in Russia’s Kirov Region

A major investment project is being implemented in the Malmyzhsky District of the Kirov Region in central European Russia aimed at building a dairy and livestock farm for 2,400 heads of dairy cattle.

The facility will be equipped with its own fodder conservation unit. An interagency commission led by the head of the region, Igor Vasilyev, approved the plan and recognized it as a large investment project.

The facility will be the first investment project approved as meeting the criteria of Regional Law No. 51-ZO on the provision of land without bidding. Investment will exceed RUR 2.6 bln ($39mio). The project is being implemented by Porez, a company affiliated with the Nobel Oil Group specializing in geological exploration and oil production.

“Dairy production is one of the priority areas in agriculture today,” said Natalia Chizh, an expert on the agricultural and food market. “A few years ago, market participants were concerned with potential milk shortages because agricultural producers would not be able to meet the demand. However, new companies are now being established, and Russian dairy producers are successfully competing with foreign suppliers.”
