Malaysia to buy eight rotorcraft from Russia

Rostec State Corporation’s subsidiary Russian Helicopters is negotiating supply of up to eight rotorcraft of three types to Malaysian customers, company’s website reports. Contract details are to be agreed during the 15th Langkawi International Maritime & Aerospace Exhibition.

“Malaysian operators made requests for purchasing up to eight Ansat, Mi-8/17 and Ka-32A11BC helicopters. We currently hold consultations with the customers to clarify technical configurations of the helicopters to be delivered, and other organizational matters”, Igor Chechikov, Russian Helicopters’ Deputy CEO, said.

The interest of Malaysian buyers was partly a result of the Russian Helicopters’ five thousand kilometers’ long South Asian Heli Tour in November and December 2018 when one Mi-171А2 and one Ansat had demonstration shows in China, Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand and Malaysia.

“After the Heli Tour, we have concluded firm and soft contracts for delivery of 70 civil helicopters. At present we are negotiating terms and delivery dates with the potential customers”, Viktor Kladov, Rostec’s Director for International Cooperation and Regional Policy, noted.
