According to Ilya Tarasenko, Director General of the MiG Corporation, “R&D works progress as planned and should be over by the yearend.” After that, the layout of the new interceptor (branded in Russian as PAK DP or advanced long range interceptor aircraft system) will be finalized. MiG-41 is to replace Mig-31 designed over 40 years ago. In its construction, stealth technology will be employed.
MiG-41 will be equipped with new advanced weaponry and avionics. It is possible, there will also be an unmanned MiG-41 produced. As Tarasenko noted, when MiG-31 becomes obsolete soon, MiG-41 as its replacement will be much needed. MiG-41 deliveries to the Russian air force are expected to start in mid-2020s.
