A research lab involving an international team of scientists opened in Tomsk. The scientists developed a new strategy to fight cancer, Izvestia reports.

The research team built special nanostructures called ‘alohens’ that need to be injected into the cells around the tumor. That will stop malign cells from multiplying. The alohen was developed through hydrothermal oxidation of aluminum-based nanopowder.
The new method has been proven successful on mice. The next stage will be trials on human patients.
Russia is represented in the research by scientists of the Institute of Strength Physics and Materials Science at the Siberian branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences. They stressed that the distinctive feature of the new method is its safety since nano particles are removed from the patient’s body through natural pathways.
“Changes in ion density are fatal for cancer cells. Regular cells are subject to minor inhibition while their vitality is not at risk,” commented Sergei Psakhye, Director of the Institute of Strength Physics and Materials Science.
