New milk production facilities opened in Kaluga Region

New milk production facilities have opened in two counties of the Kaluga Region.

A cattle farm for 1,600 cows opened in the village of Dobraya, while new milk processing facilities with a capacity of up to 350 tons per day were launched in the village of Malye Savki. In addition, these factories will also process rapeseed, or canola, an oil rich seed that is also used for production of biodiesel; up to 100 tons of canola will be processed each day.

Kaluga Region Governor Anatoly Artamonov attended the opening ceremonies.

The projects are being implemented by Zelenye Linii – Kaluga, part of Soyuzsnab Group. The company invested over RUR 2 bln ($31 mio) in the projects.

“The Kaluga Region is actively increasing its milk production,” said Natalia Chizh, an expert in the agrarian and food markets. “In the first five months of 2019, the region showed the fastest growth (by 18% as compared to the same period last year). It will allow it to make it into the top twenty leading regions. Overall, Russia’s milk production will grow by approximately 1.5% and will exceed 31 mio tons in 2019.”
