New solution for wound healing

Scientists at the Tomsk Polytechnic University and the Siberian State Medical University are working on new polymeric membranes to heal festering wounds, Marchmont Innovation News portal reports.

A spokesperson for the developers was quoted as saying this past summer that this new composite material “is placed on a wound, sorbs pus, and is then easily removed without re-traumatizing the wound.” In addition, the spokesperson said, the Siberian product is “less costly and more efficacious” than the existing competition due to its special properties and an advantageous method of making the composite (electrospinning).

The new membranes are reported to have been successful at the preclinical trial stage, and now their regenerative and antibacterial properties appear well proven.
