A robotic trail camera is now operating at the Gorno-Altaisk Republican Nature Reserve. It will install camera traps in the forest, which will then transmit information about the movements of the animals.
The photographer robot, as researchers call it, will monitor the life of the animals in the nature reserve, Interfax news agency reports.
The off-road robot will tackle obstacles, including water streams. The robot has no smell and is practically noiseless, so will be able to come close to wild animals and take photos and record videos. The robot will also install camera traps to monitor the nature reserve inhabitants. Researchers plan to send the robot to the hard-to-reach areas of the reserve to conduct a comprehensive count of wild animals that live there.
