Robots have almost replaced farm workers at an innovative dairy farm in the Vologda Region. They milk cows, control the milk production and inform operators about cow diseases.
There are some 540 cows at the farm that has recently opened in the village of Kharachevo. Each of them wears an innovative sensor which monitors the animal’s diet and health. If a cow gets sick, it can be treated urgently. The milking is also conducted by robots, which also monitor the quality of the milk. Cows are trained to go up the platform with a robotic milking system, which is controlled online by operators, Rossiyskaya Gazeta newspaper writes.
In all, the farm owners paid RUR 180 mio ($2.7 mio) for the equipment. It is expected that the innovative system will allow for increasing the number of cows at the farm by 200%. The owners also plan to purchase four more robotic milking machines.
