The civilian version of Russia’s newest Udav pistol will be manufactured for professional shooting athletes who participate in international competitions. The company also plans to create a civilian version for exports, which will retain its power, accuracy, ergonomic design and small size.
The 9-mm Udav semi-automatic pistol developed by the Central Research Institute for Precision Machine Engineering (TsNIITochMash) of the Rostech state corporation is made of Russian-made components. The new pistol has undergone official trials and has been accepted for service. The pistol will be manufactured in three versions: for military personnel, for special task force and for civilians. The civilian version will be designed for professional shooting athletes, and its combat specifications will allow for competing with such famous brands as Colt, Walther, Heckler&Koch, Glock, Browning, CZ and others.
“Our latest development combines the best features of Russian-made handguns, and its design makes it a universal firearm for military, special and civil purposes. This is why the Udav pistol meets strict requirements that professional shooters have for short-barreled firearms. Due to advanced composite materials, the pistol’s operating temperature range is from -50°C to +70°C. The Udav is equally comfortable for right-handed and left-handed people, and its design provides for the possibility of visual and tactile detection of the presence of a cartridge in the case. The civilian version might also have good export potential,” said Rostec industrial director Sergei Abramov.
The pistol’s magazine capacity is 18 rounds, which is ten more than the one of the Makarov pistol. The Udav uses 9×21 mm cartridges with tracer, armor-piercing or expanding bullets. In addition, two advanced cartridges – subsonic and with increased penetration – have been developed specially for the Udav.
