The new Moscow-Kazan expressway is to be completed by 2027. The road may be extended to Vladivostok.

The new highway is to reach Yekaterinburg by 2030; the authorities will discuss further plans after that. Officials say they are considering extending it as far as the other end of the country – to Vladivostok, TASS news agency reports. The Russian Highways State Company (Avtodor) noted that the possibility of extending the Moscow-Kazan highway will depend on the economic situation in Russia. If the government can provide enough money, the project will be implemented.

The Moscow-Kazan highway will be built in two stages. The first leg will connect Moscow and Vladimir; then a link will be built from Vladimir to Kazan. The RUR 730 bln ($11.4 bln) project will be completed by 2027. At present, travelers from Moscow to Vladimir take the M-7 highway, but heavy traffic leads to frequent jams: the M-7 is considered the second busiest after the M-11, Moscow-St. Petersburg. The new highway will help reduce the load on the M-7.
