Russia has over 3,500 ‘lottery millionaires’

In the past five years, as many as 3,652 Russians have become millionaires thanks to winning a lottery. According to the Stoloto lottery aggregator, every year 350K people in the country win a lottery although for most of them the prize money may be rather small.

“Every month Stoloto raffles off RUR 1 bln ($15 mio). In H1 2019, its total prize fund set a record of RUR 17.5 bln ($268 mio), which is 23.47% higher year on year. Over the first six months of the year, 490 Russians won over RUR 1 mio ($15.3K)each,” a Stoloto representative reported at a news conference in Moscow.

Services available to lottery winners include counselling, security and investment advice. Stoloto claims that most lottery players are aged 30 to 35 although the company did not reveal the source of this statistics.

Stoloto Sales Director Roman Romensky added that 27% Russians played lottery games last year.
