Russian vineyards cover a total area of 80,000 ha, according to the Ministry of Industry and Trade. In 2018 our country produced 940 mio bottles of wine.

As a result of anti-alcohol campaigns of the past years Russia lost numerous vineyards and winemakers, said Minister of Industry and Trade Viktor Yevtukhov during a news conference at TASS. However, now the industry is recovering.

“Today around 80,000 ha in Russia is used for growing grapes that are then used in wine production. This is not much compared to Italy and France but more than in New Zealand that only uses 20,000 ha,” the deputy minister said.

He added that dozens of Russian wines received positive reviews at international contests.

“The major winemaking regions are Krasnodar Territory, Crimea, Sevastopol, Rostov Region and Dagestan,” Viktor Yevtukhov concluded.
