Russia remains leader in financial technology

Rapidly growing companies are implementing artificial intelligence (AI) more actively than companies with medium growth rates, according to Elza Ganeyeva, GR Manager at Microsoft, who spoke at the Digital Transformation Conference on March 15 at RIA Novosti.

“Microsoft has been investing in artificial intelligence for 25 years. Our goal is to make this technology more democratic and available to people as we did with personal computers,” Elza Ganeyeva said.

She added that Microsoft has already launched several projects in AI.

“They include Bot framework, a platform for creating chat bots, Cognitive Services tools and services for AI developers, Cortana smart assistance and Seeing AI, Hearing AI application that allows perceiving the environment using visual images and sounds.”

Ganeyeva added that AI for Microsoft is a technology that expands services with human capabilities such as seeing, hearing and self-learning. The expert also noted that Russian financial companies are actively implementing AI.

“Russia is one of the leaders in financial technology. Russia’s financial system is not as conservative as in some other countries. We are more open to new technologies. We have a big market and it is our advantage,” she concluded.

However, not everybody supports this opinion. Alexei Minin, Director of the Institute of Applied Data Analysis at Deloitte CIS, called the current situation in the banking market when it comes to implementing financial technology solutions “a theater of innovations.” He believes the amount of financial technology in the financial market is extremely low and market players are not so interested in innovations.
